Kelvyn Boy has claimed that highlife is an integral part of most African genres.

While speaking in a recent interview with Sammy Flex on Zylofon FM, he maintained that the genre is the reason Afrobeats is what it is today.

According to him, Afrobeats is the major genre putting Africa on the music map, but highlife is the fuel that propels Afrobeats forwards.

The artiste, popularly known as 'Afrobeats Badman’ expressed his joy for the privileged to be the leading Afrobeats artiste in Ghana.

He noted that while other artists do source music in terms of highlife, he draws from highlife to make the Afrobeat genre a platform for success for Ghanaians.

We have not left Highlife behind. You can not do Afrobeat without Highlife because that is the rhythm and when you read about Afrobeat it says it is the combination of West African music such as ‘Juju’ music from Nigeria, Highlife, American funk but on cannot brand himself as a funk artist but an Afrobeat act”,

Kelvyn boy noted that Nigerians are doing well when it comes to music because they attach some level of seriousness to their craft.

Per his observations, Ghanaians are not as serious when it comes to their music.

He opined that things would be better if Ghanaian celebrities took their craft more seriously.
