Year of Roads: GPRTU of Ahodwo Nhyiaeso pressure government on the terrible nature of road

The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) of Ahodwo Nhyiaeso Trotro Branch in the Atwima Kwanwoma constituency have prompted government on the nature of their abandoned road which is fading their services and making life uncomfortable for residents.

According to the Chairman of the Trotro Branch, Mr. Paul Kwesi Afful, drivers spend much on maintenance due to its deplorable nature therefore if the road is not put in proper shape, the association will soon renounce operation.

He disclosed that the contractor was operational until the coronavirus outbreak which led to a halt. As of now, residents in the area have been going through tougher means of transport while traders by the side of the road have utterly lost interest from customers as a result of the dusty particles produced by the road surface.

“From Ahodwo to Ampabame is worse. Although the road has been given to a contractor and works were ongoing, yet the rains have made things worse for us here,” he said.

“The road seems abandoned and we are pleading to government to remind the contractor of his duties towards residents.”

He addressed the unwillingness of drivers to ply on the road especially at night when the rains heavily fall. He called on the Minister of Roads, Hon. Amoako Attah and prompted that if the year 2020 is declared as ‘Year of Roads’, then the Ahodwo, Nhyiaeso, Ampabame road needs mending.

“The Road Minister should listen to our plea and fix the Ahodwo, Nhyiaeso, Ampabame road for us. This is not a matter of politics. We are in a mess right now and we need help. Passengers get stranded at night because drivers do not want to ply on this road due to the damage it causes vehicles.

“If the challenge persists, drivers would have no option than to abandon plying on the road, which would create inconveniences for passengers. The better state of the road enliven our services hence our complain.”

Traders and drivers uttered their concern and urged the leadership of the country to come to their aid.

“The mud surrounding this area is worse. Whenever the rain pours, life by the road gets untidy. The dust is not good for our health and we are pleading to the government to come to our aid,” Lydia Owusu Ampofo said.

“Nana Addo should resolve the state of our road. When there is no rain, the dust gets worse, when it rains, the mud is another challenge. We don’t know what to do now and it's heavily affecting our business,” Agudie Adepa added.
