Yaw Dhope: GH artists deserve appreciation whether or not they win a Grammy

Rapper Yaw Dhope feels it's terrible that Ghanaian artists' ingenuity and talent have gone unappreciated because they haven't been fortunate enough to win a Grammy.

As a result, the existing account shouldn't be supported because it undermines and "kills" the efforts of dedicated artists.

Former Abuakwa State College (ABUSCO) student Yaw Dhope claims, "I have been following discussions on the 2024 Grammys, which has no Ghanaian artist on its nomination list." The world won't end because of that.

"It seems like we should be applauding the artists who submitted their works for review, but instead we are making fun of them,"

It seems as though Stonebwoy committed a crime by submitting nominations for the Grammy Awards and then failing to get a slot when the list was revealed last week.

"I'm an artist, and what is occurring is really disappointing, and I agree with the likes of Camidoh and Medikal that our time will come.

As a society, we should be more concerned with encouraging our people to travel such roads than mocking them when they fail at their attempts.

Indeed, receiving international acclaim and winning Grammy awards on such prestigious stages are admirable, but are we undermining all of our efforts just because we didn't win?' he asked.

Yaw Dhope has released a respectable catalog of songs in the short time since he became a recognized professional musician, including Light and Darkness, Make Money, Ladance and Riches, and Envy.

Others include Close to the ground, One way or the other, Devil Knock, Flow Unlocked, Apologies for Left, and Differences. Bad Mind Gee, Kwashieman, and Vis-a-Vis to Labadi.

Additionally, he said that he finds it extremely unfair that rising young artists are now routinely compared to their "seniors" in the industry.

The rapper told Graphic Showbiz that while his successful maiden performance in 2022 marked a significant career milestone, the practice shouldn't be promoted as well.

"I've always stated that musicians in Ghana may simply retire, but that shouldn't be promoted. Nothing compares to a retired musician, thus both young and old should be honored for their unique contributions, he continued.
