Secretary of the Board of Trustees of the National Cathedral, Rev. Victor Kusi Boateng has assured that construction works for the house of worship is expected to begin by March 6, 2020.

The board have help supervise the demolition of structures around the ridge district with some belonging to certain judges to pave way for works to start. The March deadline according to the secretary is to allow the finalization of paper work for the project.

“It takes a while for the architectural drawings to be ready after which the architect will take the architectural drawings to the structural engineer[s] who will also prepare their drawings and they should be very detailed and so it takes a lot of time to really develop the drawings.

“But by the grace of God, we are very close to the technical aspect of the project and that is why you have seen the demolition taking place, and the hoarding will be taking place very very soon and then construction will start,” he said in a radio interview on Accra-based Citi FM.

Rev. Victor Kusi Boateng assured that “Construction work will start before the 6th of March. We are putting things in place. Very soon you will see advertisement in terms of contractors, procurement and so on…We are working on all those things.”

The National Cathedral was promised by the Akufo-Addo’s administration in 2017, which raised lots of controversies from opposition parties and certain religious leaders as ‘partiality’ to define the Nation’s religious status through Christian Worship.

Despite the criticisms, the president defended the decision to proceed to his plans describing the initiative as “priorities among priorities.”

Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was in the United States capital of Washington D.C on February 8, 2019, to launch the fundraising for the building of the cathedral after the State House witnessed the Ghanaian version of the unveiling through which photos revealing the design of the cathedral were disclosed.

On completion, the Cathedral would become Ghana's Mother Church, where all faiths will converge and worship God. It will also be the residence where Presidents and other dignitaries during thanksgiving services would congregate.
