WHO to meet over Marburg virus outbreak

According to the World Health Organization, a conference will be held immediately to discuss the Marburg virus outbreak in Equatorial Guinea.

In the eastern Kie Ntem province, where the disease has never been reported before, there are currently 16 probable cases and nine confirmed cases of hemorrhagic fever.

Four of the deceased were members of the same family, and preliminary evidence suggests that the deaths were related to a burial service.

Similar to ebola, the virus is thought to be carried by fruit bats to humans, and it also passes between people by means of bodily fluids.
