Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has said that a trophy for his side this season will revive his project and get Manchester United back to where they belong in world football.

The Red Devils have been barren for three years without a trophy, with the recent coming under Jose Mourinho in 2017 when Manchester United won the Europa League trophy.

The Red Devils won the 21st PL trophy in 2012-13 under Sir Alex Ferguson and have since witnessed rivals, Man City win thrice, Chelsea twice, Leicester City and currently in the hands of Liverpool.

United were denied qualifying into the final of the FA Cup last season as they were beaten by Chelsea 3-1.

Despite their poor start in the current season, the Red Devils are third on the League table with 26 points, five points behind Liverpool and have a game in hand.

They visit Goodison Park to play Everton in the Carabao Cup quarter-final on Wednesday night and as revealed by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, trophies “does give something to a team.”

“Of course it's something we're aiming for,” said Solksjaer, cited by SoireeNews on talkSPORTS.

“We want to improve every season and to improve on last year is to get to the final and, of course, when you get to the final there's only one thing that matters and that's to lift the trophy.

“I remember myself winning my first trophy. Even towards the end of my career, I think it was Patrice Evra and Nemanja Vidic's first trophy in the Carling Cup, 2006 was it?

“I think that was their first trophy and it does give something to a team.

“We are desperate to get our hands on a trophy, these players are desperate to learn how to win.”
