Update: Akwatialine Sellers Resist Authority Suggestion; Proceed On Building Their Shops.

Meanwhile, Authority from the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has cautioned sellers of Akwatialine to desist from their current activities and exercise patience as they investigate the circumstance leading to the outbreak but the sellers have resisted the opinion. 

Sellers of the Akwatialine, a known wood village that was ravaged by fire on Thursday, February 3, are back and have started building up their wrecked shops and building despite directives from the authority to halt their operations.

The sellers among some hawkers who either reside or trade at the Akwatialine lost a huge amount of Ghana cedis as a result of the fire outbreak which engulfed the area on Thursday morning.

In an engagement with some sellers, they disclosed that, although they have been engaged with the authority, they are fighting for their lives because government Intervention to address their challenges might keep long.

"We slept in the open yesterday, we can not keep sleeping outside and wait for government's intervention hence we are taking it upon ourselves to build our shop so that we can start selling and earn something to cater for our families they stressed ".

Some of the victims are pleading for assistance to raise capital to start their business again.

BACKGROUND:

Hundreds of weep as Wood sellers at AkwatiaLine in Kumasi count their loss after a fire wrecked several shops, Thursday, February 3, 2022.

Currently, items belonging to the traders could not be identified after dousing the fire as properties burnt to ashes.

Personnel from the Fire Service intervened swiftly to prevent the fire from spreading to other shops yet several shops have been destroyed.

The exact cause of the outbreak is not yet specified but it is established that a trader within the market lane burning of kept refuse might be the cause.

However, the police have launched a manhunt to arrest the suspected person who has caused this huge loss to victims.

Soireenews Speaking to Aunty Veronica who can not hold her tears sadly said, my millions of cedis have been swept off by fire due to someone's negligence now I have to start everything new she sadly disclosed.

Some sellers are left stranded due to the huge loss they recorded today out of the outbreak.

Some say the toughest part has to do with how they will manage to raise money to be able to immerse in the wood-selling business again.

The fire service has advised residents to be extra careful dealing with a fire at this juncture.
