Chelsea’s 2-0 victory against Manchester City set up an all English tie in the Champions League final three weeks later in Istanbul.

Timo Werner and Mason Mount strike in both halves secured a 3-1 aggregate scoreline for Thomas Tuchel to become the first manager to play in the tournament’s final consecutively with two different teams; PSG last year and Chelsea.

Real Madrid needed just a goal to outstrip Chelsea’s determination but found none, as sloppy defending cost them the first goal converted by Timo Werner in the 28-minute.

Havertz burst onto a ball inside the penalty area on the left and deftly chipped a finish over the advancing Courtois, bouncing off the top of the goalkeeper's crossbar. Werner gratefully nodded in from the rebound as Madrid defenders were caught ball watching.

Benzema almost responded with a leveller after meeting a quick-thinking Modrić cross from the left with a powerful header at close range that is arcing into the roof of Mendy's net before the goalkeeper sprung up to acrobatically tip it over his crossbar.

Mount in the 53-minute had the chance to put Chelsea ahead when Werner played a one-two with the young player, flicking the return into his path in front of goal on the right. The midfielder fizzed his finish well over the crossbar to give Madrid air to breathe.

Los Blanco defence was threaded by the home side as their effort to move upfront was frustrated by Chelsea, with Kante dispossessing most of Real Madrid breaks.

Mount closed the game for Chelsea in the 85-minute when Pulisic on the counter after being released by Kante toyed Courtois and a couple of defenders.

The winger then fired in a low cross that Mount met with an emphatic finish behind Eder Militao in front of goal.

The game ended 2-0 and the final is set on May 29, 2021, at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium in Turkey.

N'Golo Kanté was the UEFA Player of the Match.
