There is no vaccine for marburg virus - Biomedical Scientist

A Biomedical Scientist at the Wenchi Methodist Hospital in the Bono Region, Mr. Christopher Nkrumah has disclosed to the media that there is no vaccine for the marburg virus.

He was speaking in an interview with our correspondent Nana Anfreh Damanata alongside the Marburg outbreak in the country which killed two in the Ashanti region.

Since there is no vaccine for the Marburg virus, the World Health Organization (WHO) is working to come up with a vaccine he said.

He does advise Ghanaians to adhere to precautionary measures of washing hands, avoiding handshaking, and observingngng social distancing in the public.

Mr. Christopher Nkrumah also cautioned Ghanaians to stay away from bats as well as avoid hugging to contain the spread of the Marburg virus.

In addition, the Biomedical scientists urged Ghanaians to soon as possible send their relatives who show symptoms of the virus including vomiting or bleeding without any reason to the nearest health facilities for treatment.

Show of symptoms of the Marburg virus includes fever, bloody diarrhea, bleeding from gums, bleeding into the skin, bleeding into the eyes, bloody urine, and many more he highlighted.

Mr. Christopher Nkrumah explained that the Marburg virus is transmitted to people from animals and spreads among humans through human-to-human transmission from direct contact with body fluids, blood, and other discharges from the affected person/animal.
