Bono Regional Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Asare Bediako Seth, has said the demonstrators in Ejura, with regards to the death of the three persons, including Kaaka, must be partly blamed since they attacked the soldiers.

Speaking on Ark in the Morning monitored by Soiree News, Mr Asare Bediako said,  the demonstration was not needed since the police had launched an investigation into the death of Kaaka, who was killed by some unknown people the previous day.

The matter has taken a political twist, making it difficult for anyone to unravel the cause of Kaaka’s death, the NPP communicator added.

A social activist, Ibrahim Mohammed, commonly known as Kaaka, died on Monday, June 28, 2021, after he was attacked by a mob when he was returning home on his motorbike on Sunday.

It is alleged he was killed because of his social activism, which some felt was making the government unpopular.

The 45-year-old was noted to be vocal on both local and national issues using his Facebook page and his family said he had faced threats for his activism prior to the attack.

He was rushed to the Ejura Government Hospital and later referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, where he died at midday on June 28. Police in the Ashanti Region has since arrested two persons in connection with his death.

Ibrahim Muhammed’s death sparked protests in Ejura and outrage online. He was buried on Tuesday, June 29, 2021. After the burial, some residents of Ejura and security personnel clashed, which led to the death of two persons.

The two were among six persons who were shot during the clash and taken to the Ejura Government Hospital. The clash occurred when some residents pelted the security personnel deployed during the burial of the late social activist with stones.

NDC Deputy Communication Officer for Sunyani East, Frimpong Samuel, has also said the issue “cannot be discussed without politics since all the people involved in the issue are politicians”.
