On a trip to West Africa, UN Secretary-General António Guterres will stop in northeast Nigeria to meet with families affected by the Islamist insurgency.

He is traveling from Niger, another nation that has been targeted by Islamic militants regularly.

Under the aegis of the African Union, Mr. Guterres is advocating for strong African peace initiatives as well as counter-terrorism operations (AU).

He'll also meet with Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari to discuss the impact of rising food and energy prices in Africa, which are being worsened by the situation in Ukraine.
