The song "16 years" was motivated by discussions concerning rape and young girls, according to Mzbel

Mzbel, a well-known Ghanaian singer, has revealed the inspiration for her hit song "16 Years."

The song "16 years" was motivated by discussions concerning rape and young girls, according to Mzbel

The CEO of "Mzbel Music" claimed that the song was inspired by conversations about the severe concerns of rape and the vulnerability of young girls in a recent interview on 3Music's Big Conversation.

She described hearing Maame Dokono on the radio discussing rape and observing the behavior of the young girls she used to live with in James Town.

She wrote the song as a result of these encounters. Mzbel claimed that while driving in a cab and listening to Maame Dokono on the radio talk about rape, she came up with the lyrics for the song.

Mzbel claimed, "I came up with the lyrics while riding in a taxi. I used to live with a lot of James Town girls, so I got to hear their conversations and see how they acted. Maame Dokono frequently discussed rape on the radio. I came up with the tune "16 yrs" after observing how people responded to Maame Dokono's story one day when we were riding in a cab.

"I started writing the song in the taxi and expanded on it when I got home, and that's how it came together," she continued. Mzbel responded, "Not at all, I didn't even think it would become popular outside Ghana," when asked if she anticipated the song to have such a significant influence.

I assumed it was just another one of my well-written songs. But all of a sudden, it began to spread to Equatorial Guinea, Togo, and Nigeria.

One of Mzbel's most popular songs, 16 Years, propelled her to stardom and made her one of Ghana's most prominent performers.
