David Seamus has advised Arsenal to financially back Mikel Arteta in the January transfer window.

The Gunners have had a tough season having lost four of their last six games and are placed 15th on the Premier League table.

Many have called for the sacking of the former Manchester City assistant after almost a year in charge, with concerns raised about his ability to control the dressing room following his players' disciplinary record on the pitch.

It is the third time an Arsenal player has been sent off this season – Pepe against Leeds, Xhaka against Burnley and the latter on Wednesday night.

“It's very difficult to compete in this league when you play for such a long period with 10 men, Arteta said when asked whether he is frustrated by the number of red cards.

“When you're struggling for the results, it makes it even more complicated but I think that the boys stood up for it and again showed a lot of character and resilience. They never gave up. After 1-0 I was worried because after this moment, you can start to see players hiding but they did the complete opposite,” he added.

Arsenal acquired Willian, goalkeeper Alex Runnarsson, Thomas Partey and Gabriel Magalhaes last summer under Arteta but the former goalkeeper believes the depth of the Gunners squad is not strong enough to compete with the top teams.

“I see him on the sidelines, I see him speaking and I know people at the training ground and they tell me his coaching techniques are fantastic,” He told on talkSPORT Breakfast today.

“A lot of that team was under Arsene Wenger and Unai Emery. So he hasn’t got his own team yet.

“The club need to back him on that because we can all see we still need players.

“We've got Gabriel and then we got [Thomas] Partey – we need to add to that.”

Arsenal will play Everton on Saturday at the Goodison Park.
