Stop turning Ashaiman into your training ground-GAF told

Convenors of the Ashaiman Lives Matter are urging the Ghana Armed Forces to refrain from settling on Ashaiman as a military training ground.

According to the group, the unfortunate and barbaric act by the military leaves much to be desired therefore urging the duo of the government of Ghana and the military hierarchy who directed their men in uniform to unleash terror on innocent people of Ashaiman.

Sadly, the convenors noted revealed that some of the residents who were subjected to the inhumane treatment by the military, were not residents of Ashaiman. Addressing a press conference earlier today, the group identified as Ashaiman Live Matters condemned in all certain terms. Due to the inhumane and unwarranted treatment meted on the residents of Ashaiman, convenors of the Ashaiman Lives Matter, said, "We are currently in a constant state of fear for our lives because the soldiers told the residents that it is a one month operation and they have instructions from above to put the fear of God in them to them to avenge the murder of the fallen soldier", the group decried. The group revealed that while some of the malhandled persons were traders from Amasaman, Accra and surrounding cities others were also workers who knew nothing about the murder of the young soldier. The group revealed that the aoldiers unlawfully broke into the houses of residents of Ashaiman, dragged them out of their beds, and brutalized them causing excessive damage to their livelihood. As if that was not enough, they kidnapped some 400 people and unlawfully took them to Burma Camp. A development, the Ashaiman Lives Matter convenors condemned in all uncertain terms and called for an immediate release of same. The Lead Convenor, Lawyer Emmanuel Kumadey indicated that," We the people of Ashaiman condemn the beastly acts of the Ghana Armed Forces and we also call for President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency Nana Addo Danquah kufo-Addo,the Commander-in- Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces to do same and render an unqualified apology to the good people of Ashaiman for the criminal acts of his troops". "The irony about the whole incident is that it happened less than 48 hours after celebrating the country's independence from colonial rule. It appears the country less replaced the foreign oppressor with an indigenous one", Lawyer Kumadey bemoaned. The military's attack on the people of Ashaiman was a reprisal attack as a result of the mob attack on a young soldier leading to his untimely death. But the convenors said the incident was unfortunate therefore calling on the president, H. E. Nana Addo Danquah Akofo-Addo should compel the leadership of the military to render an unqualified apology to the people of Ashaiman. " We also call on the media, civil societies, professional bodies such as Ghana Bar Association, and Religious bodies among others to also join us in condemning the violent criminal acts of the soldiers", The convenors could not understand why the military consistently and persistently leverages the fragility of the people of Ashaiman to unleash their wrath. "If citizens cannot sleep peacefully in the comfort of their homes, where else should they find peace in a somewhat democratic country?", they demand to know. The New Patriotic Party(NPP) Constituency Chairman for Ashaiman, Nene Alexander Narh Amanor said while condemning the murdering of the young soldier, the party equally will not side with the nefarious act of brutality by the soldiers. According to him, the law mandate victims of an unfortunate situation to lodge a complaint with the police for investigation and apprehension of perpetrators but for the soldiers to have taken the law into their own hands and brutalized unarmed civilians was criminal and unacceptable. The Reagent of Ashaiman, Nii Annan Adjor explained that no two wrongs make a right therefore the action of some youth is regrettable, and the military should have known better. He said the act of the soldiers was just like that of the citizens and urged that that path should have been towed.
