Newcastle United manager, Steve Bruce has urged the club's new owners to steer the Magpies to the level it deserves.

Bruce finally left the Magpies after more than two years in charge, having reached the quarter-final stage in both the Emirates FA Cup and Carabao Cup during his tenure; his appealing record so far in his tenure,

The manager left the Premier League club by mutual consent following a poor run of results after eight matches. Newcastle are last but one with only three points.

Following his exit, he expressed satisfaction at the decision of the owners and wished them the best of luck.

"I am grateful to everyone connected with Newcastle United for the opportunity to manage this unique football club.

"I would like to thank my coaching team, the players and the support staff in particular for all their hard work. There have been highs and lows, but they have given everything even in difficult moments and should be proud of their efforts.

"This is a club with incredible support, and I hope the new owners can take it forward to where we all want it to be. I wish everyone the very best of luck for the rest of this season and beyond."

Paulo Fonseca is seen as the number one choice to get the job at St James’ Park.

The former Roma boss is out of work after leaving the Italian giants and therefore would be available to move without the need for compensation.

Lucien Favre is second while Eddie Howe, Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard are next on the list.

Former Arsenal boss and current Villarreal coach Unai Emery, who steered the Yellow Submarine to a Europa League triumph last season, is said to be part of the list.
