Speaker appeals to the public over MPs' absenteeism

Amidst what appears to be a misunderstanding between members of Parliament over the absenteeism of MPs from both sides of the house on the floor of Parliament on March 29, 2022, the Rt. Honorable Speaker has directed that the Clarks of Parliament affect the necessary corrections.

He, therefore, appealed to the general public not to take everything they hear or read or see hook line, and sinker.

It will be recalled that the controversial Electronic Transaction levy(E-levy) was a passage with the minority staging a walk, therefore, raising the issue of quorum.

The said electronic transactions levy which seeks to charge some 1.75% and subsequently reviewed to 1.50% on the day of passage has been the focus in disguise.

Some members of parliament were conspicuously absent from the floor of parliament on the day of the passage of the controversial E-levy.
This portal could confirm that at least eight MPs were absent from parliament as capHansardy the Hansard.

Rt Honorable Speaker, while commensurating with the minority had promised to direct the table office to effect the necessary corrections.
He said he was aware of the attention that the general public has to the proceedings of Parliament.
Given that, he urged the Clark of Parliament to correct the anomaly.
"Whatever are your suspicions remains as suspicions," the Speaker said.
This mist reaction followed a statement made on the floor of parliament by the Minority Leader regarding some members who were in parliament and yet marked absent.
Other MPs from the minority side also raised the same concerns.

But, the  Rt. Honorable Speaker has directed that the anomaly be corrected on the Hansard of parliament.
The Minority, however, demands an apology from the Clarks of parliament for not recording the walkout of the Minority from the floor of parliament.
The Minority was of the view that that could not have been a mere coincidence.
The Rt Honourable Speaker, Alban Sumana Sumana Bagbin.
Sitting has since been adjourned to 4:00 pm during which business of the house would be begun.
