The president of the French Football Federation (FFF), Noel Le Graet, believes that Karim Benzema has enjoyed the best season of his career in 2019/20.

The striker hasn't played for France since 2015 and his performances for Real Madrid are raising questions over his continued exclusion from the national team.

"He's had an exceptional season with Real Madrid," Le Graet told RMC Sport.

"I've already congratulated [Zinedine] Zidane, his coach.

"Right now, he's one of the best players [in the world].

"Is he the best? I'm not one to say because I've not watched every match.

"But he's had the best season of his career."

Last November, Le Graet ruled out a return to international football for Benzema.

"He's a great player, as he's showing at Real Madrid," the FFF president said.

"But his adventure with the French national team is over."

After seeing these comments, Benzema wrote a response on social media.

"Let it be known that it'll be me, and only me, who puts an end to my international career," he replied.
