Rex Omar declares, "I'm of age and ready to serve in the next NDC government"
Rex Omar, a politician and singer from Ghana, has stated that he would accept a governmental job if offered one.
Boakyewaa Lawrencia In a recent interview with Joy FM, National Democratic Congressman (NDC) stalwart Rex Omar stated that he would be happy to accept the post provided the work is within his purview.
"Now that I believe I am of age, I will [accept a political appointment] because I think I will be able to positively contribute to the development of this country if I am given any appointment that is within my capacity," he declared.
"When we get to that road, we will cross it because at the end of the day all these positions are political appointments and so long as you are smart and intelligent and you know what is going on in this country, wherever they put you, you can deliver if you really want to," he said in response to the question of whether he would want to hold a position at the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture.
The 'Abiba' hitmaker expressed his thoughts on the situation of Ghanaian democracy, stating that a six-year presidential term will improve national government.
He claimed that no government could have a significant economic influence under the present four-year tenure.
"We also jump on the bandwagon because America holds elections every four years, but the question is, has America had democracy for more than 200 years? We're just getting started, I guess. So consider our predicament," he remarked.
With the release of the album Aware Pa in 1989, which featured the song Wodofo Ne Hwan?, Rex Omar became well-known. After that, he joined fellow highlife artists Nat Brew (now Amandzeba) and Akosua Agyapong to establish Nakorex in 1992. The group's name is an acronym consisting of the initial letters of each member's name.
Later, he pursued a solo career, put out excellent records, gave performances both inside and outside of Ghana, received numerous honors, and was nominated for a 2004 Kora Award.
