Veteran Nollywood actress, Rita Edochie throws her weight behind the incarcerated separationist group leader, Nnamdi Kanu as she calls for his release.

Nnamdi Kanu was first arrested on October 14, 2015, following years of his campaign for the sovereign state of Biafra. He was granted bail in April 2017 and was again remanded in custody prior to his trial in 2021.

IPOB members and unknown gunmen have, however, released mayhem in Southeast following a compulsory sit-at-home order in July 2023 for the release of their leader who is in prison.

Rita Edochie in an Instagram post urges the Nigerian government to release Kanu while emphasizing the end to the unrest.

Shs wrote: "Release Mazi Nnamdi Okwu Kanu today and see the unrest in the Southeast become a history. Stop playing with peoples life especially all you elites. That your children are overseas and you are using other people’s children to creat unrest. If you are one of them your generation and generation to come will never no peace.

However, the actress’s voice on the release of the IPOB leader sparked mixed reactions from Nigerians.
