Messi's signing could mean Mbappe will leave the club.

Germany star Toni Kroos has dropped a hint that Real Madrid could sign Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain admitting he would "not be surprised" if he arrived at the club this summer.

Kylian Mbappe recently entered the final year of his contract at PSG, and reports claim he is not looking to extend his stay in the French capital beyond the summer of 2022.

This implies that the Parc des Princes chiefs have one final chance to cash in on the player this summer before he can begin negotiating a free move abroad ahead of the expiry of his deal at the turn of the year.

Speculation over Mbappe's future is rife again amid the impending arrival of Argentine talisman – Lionel Messi in Paris, with the Barca legend set to join Mauricio Pochettino's side on a free transfer after failing to agree a new contract with the Spanish club.

Should Messi sign as expected in the coming days, PSG will be in a more comfortable position to cash in on the 22-year-old France striker before the summer transfer window closes.

Liverpool have been linked with a move for Mbappe in recent months, but Madrid are said to be leading the race for his signature.

And Los Blancos midfielder Kroos has teased the possibility of a deal coming to fruition, telling German outlet Bild that he would not be surprised to see it happen. Kroos said:

“I prefer to talk about signings that have already been completed.

“But since Real Madrid always want the best, I would not be surprised.

Mbappe registered 27 goals in 31 Ligue 1 appearances for PSG last season and played a part in their run to the Champions League semi-finals.

Madrid officials are awaiting a call from PSG President Nasser Al-Khelaifi over a potential deal for the youngster this summer. Marca reports.

It is believed PSG will need to balance the books by selling a player after signing Messi on a bumper contract, and Mbappe is the most likely candidate to leave given he has entered the final year of his contract.
