Ghanaian artiste, Wendy Shay has asked the President of Ghana to interfere in the Gaming Commissions impending plan to ban celebrities from promoting betting companies.

The Rufftown Records signee appealed to President Nana Addo Danquah Akufo- Addo on her Twitter page. Her words directly echo the sentiments of her manager, Bullet, who had earlier condemned the government over its unfavourable laws towards record labels in Ghana.

Wendy Shay made her appeal concerning the rumours that the Gaming Commission in Ghana is planning to ban celebrities in Ghana from promoting betting companies in the country.

She directly questioned the president on how he wants the celebrities to survive since most of them depend on the earnings obtained from these companies.

"Dear @NAkufoAddo 1st, FDA stopped celebs from promoting alcoholic bev's making us lose jobs to Nigerian celebrities
Gaming commission just stopped us from promoting betting serv. So how do we survive as creative persons in this pandemic#Savethecreativearts#bringbackourjobs" she wrote

This tweet goes in tandem to what her manager, Bullet had earlier complained about. Bullet exclaimed earlier this month that he would be taking himself, his artistes and his label out of the country if the government of Ghana continues to the unfavourable laws of non-interaction with alcohol and betting companies on labels.

The Chief Executive Officer of Rufftown Records outrightly threatened to move to Nigeria as the laws are keeping record labels from being successful in Ghana. He specifically noted that there should be no laws that prevent record labels from endorsing alcoholic beverages and betting companies in Ghana.

Bullet then asserted that there would no record labels in Ghana in a year or two because none would survive if the laws are still in place.

"In a year or 2 there will be no record labels in Gh due to stringent/ heart-wrenching laws made by people occupying higher positions to collapse the creative arts 1st it was FDA, and now Gaming commission, I am moving Rufftown to Nigeria, if the gov’t doesn’t change these laws."

“Ghana is not a place to operate a record label business and this is very sad.
Record labels do not make money from just shows where their artistes are billed to perform, majority of the money comes from endorsement deals. You people are always goofing with your laws. Do you guys have any idea of the devastating effects of COVID-19 on the creative arts.#theydontcareaboutthecreativearts,” He wrote.
