The Vatican has announced a new date for Pope Francis' visit to South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The Vatican announced that the pope will visit the two nations between January 31 and February 5.

He will spend the final two days of his tour in South Sudan, where he will be accompanied by the Archbishop of Canterbury and the Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, it stated.

The pope's trip to the two nations was originally planned for July of this year but was postponed due to his health issues.

The leaders of the two states will entertain him, and he will also meet with bishops, other members of the clergy, and members of the civil society in both countries.

In South Sudan, he is also expected to meet internally displaced people.
