Trent Arnold ready to train at Melwood

Liverpool returned to training ahead of “Project Restart’ on Wednesday morning at Melwood following two months of break on sporting activating due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

Other England clubs including Manchester United and Chelsea also trained in small groups after the Premier League gave the go-ahead through a unanimous vote on Monday, May 18, 2020, for workouts to begin.

Per the account of Sky Sports at Melwood, Klopp was the first to arrive at the training ground to oversee the first session, which involved 10 Liverpool players - including the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold, James Milner and Alisson.

Once the first session is completed, those 10 players will leave Melwood, with another group arriving later on to begin their own session.

Manchester United also returned to their base in Carrington on Wednesday to resume small group training, with Fred and Scott McTominay among the first set of players to arrive.

Klopp earlier expressed his happiness on the return of training and premier league football to finish the current season after calls were made to declare the league null and void.

“I was over the moon, I would say. I couldn’t wait for a while now, so I am really happy that we are able to do this again – going back to Melwood, having small group training and stuff like this,” Klopp told Liverpoolfc.com.

“It will be intense, for the coaches especially because a lot of players in small groups means a lot of sessions, but we’ve had enough time to rest so we will be fine. Can’t wait. We had to do the testing this week – the COVID testing – and we have to still wait for the results. If they are all negative – which would be positive – then we can start with the full group, pretty much.

“It’s a great day when they finally decided to do so, I always said we don’t want to rush anything, but I don’t think it is rushed. It is for the first step, for this kind of social distancing training and we have five players.

“Everybody knows how big a football pitch is and there will probably be four players and a goalkeeper, or five players and a goalkeeper in a separate group on different days, that’s possible as well but then you can imagine how much space they have to do what they have to do.

Liverpool is top of the Premier League after 29 games with 25 points difference far off. Two wins will secure them the PL title after 30 years of heartbreaks and disappointment in pursuit of it.
