Barcelona’s Presidential candidate, Victor Font would initiate a move for Pep Guardiola from Manchester City when he is handed the role of the club’s presidency.

According to him, to only thing to lure Lionel Messi to extend his current contract is to get the former Barca coach on board to help restore the glory days of the club.

“Most of the best professionals who know about this style are also fans and love the club, like Pep Guardiola, Xavi, Andres Iniesta, Carles Puyol,” Font told Sky Sports News.

“They are all legends that love Barcelona but do not work for Barca today – we need to bring them back to ensure we will have a very competitive project.

“The only thing Messi needs is to know he is part of a competitive project that aspires to win the next Champions League. We have no doubt that if we have the honour to take the helm of FC Barcelona we will be able to achieve that.”

Josep Bartomeu on Tuesday night tendered in his resignation and stepped down as Barcelona president together with his board. Xavi and Pep have been on the radar of the Blaugranas yet the Al Sadd manager is not willing to take up the job as he prefers to concentrate on his current project until the time is right.

Pep Guardiola is in his final 12 months of his current contract at Manchester City and the Citizens have lined up Julian Nagelsmann and Mauricio Pochetino as possible replacements should he fail to sign an extension.

Ronald Koeman, having taken over from Quique Setien is still battling with steadying the Barca ship following the defeat to Getafe and their current loss in the El-Clasico to Real Madrid and Font believes, Pep is key should he assume office.
