Paris Saint-Germain is reportedly still keeping alive their hopes of sensationally lining up ex-Barcelona star Lionel Messi and Juventus striker Cristiano Ronaldo in the same team this season.

And the key to that mouthwatering prospect becoming a reality appears to lie with whether or not they can agree on a deal that would see Kylian Mbappe go to Real Madrid.

The Parisians have already completed the signing of Lionel Messi and now reportedly have Cristiano Ronaldo in their sights.

PSG completed the signing of six-time Ballon d'Or winner Messi earlier this summer after the Argentine was unable to sign a new contract with his beloved Barcelona.

Although he has yet to make his debut at Parc des Princes, Messi's arrival has seen PSG receive a huge amount of media coverage, and the club gained a staggering 20m further followers across their social media platforms in the seven days following the global icon's arrival.

Perhaps the only other player in the world who can rival Messi for coverage is Ronaldo, who was his long-time rival on the pitch in La Liga when he represented Real Madrid.

Now at Juventus, Cristiano Ronaldo is believed to be keen for another move having grown restless with life in Turin, and he asked to be a substitute for his side's Serie A opener against Udinese at the weekend.

PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi is determined to land the Portuguese legend in order to add the star to his dream team and see him play alongside a crop of Galacticos which include Messi, Neymar, Sergio Ramos, Gianluigi Donnarumma, and Gini Wijnaldum. Spanish outlet OK Diario reports.

However, one man who Ronaldo is unlikely to partner with is Mbappe.

The 22-year-old forward's contract is set to expire at the end of the season, and it currently appears that he has no intentions of renewing as he continues to dream of playing for the Los Blancos.

This summer would represent PSG's last chance of getting a big transfer fee for Mbappe, and therefore it is believed that if they can tempt Ronaldo, they would then be prepared to reluctantly let Mbappe move on, even though it had initially looked impossible for Madrid to land him so early.

There appears to be no way even PSG would be able to afford both Ronaldo and Mbappe's wages, and thus all of this happening appears to depend on whether or not they can make an agreement with Madrid over Mbappe.

Whatever the case, if movements are to be made they need to happen quickly, with the transfer window slamming shut in just over a week's time on August 31.

Mbappe has consistently remained coy over his future, refusing to confirm either whether he wishes to leave or wants to stay in France.

Speaking earlier this year he said:

"I need to take the right decision, which is hard and gives myself the best opportunity to decide well.

"I am somewhere where I’m happy, I feel good. But is it the best place for me, I don’t yet have an answer."

Meanwhile, football fans could be treated to their first taste of Messi in a PSG shirt as early as this weekend.

The player has sat out of PSG's wins against Strasbourg and Brest over the last few weeks.

But some reports are claiming that manager Mauricio Pochettino has deemed him now fit enough to feature, and he could well make an appearance against Reims on Sunday.
