Manchester United legend Gary Neville has implored the Red Devils to splash out on a big-money move for Tottenham Hotspurs striker, Harry Kane over the coming days.

The former United defender suggested that the England skipper could be the missing piece of the jigsaw for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Harry, who is desperate to leave the Lilywhites ahead of this month's transfer deadline, has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester City in recent weeks.

The defending Premier League champions are on the hunt for a new striker to replace Sergio Aguero, who left the club to join Barcelona earlier in the window.

However, Neville believes that the Red Devils should be going all out to land Kane ahead of their cross-city rivals, with the 46-year-old declaring that the arrivals of Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane will not be enough to lead the Old Trafford men to Premier League glory this season.

Neville told Monday Night Football when quizzed on whether United's summer business will see them pip City to the title.

"My gut feeling is no, they won't have the same impact on Manchester United as Virgil Van Dijk and Allison did at Liverpool to get them up to 90 points, 95 points that you need to win the league. I think they'll still be short.

"Chelsea, we've seen what they've done with Lukaku. We've seen that Van Dijk's coming back for Liverpool and we know Manchester City were in for Jack Grealish and Kane

"If they get Kane, I think it's a massive problem for United. I'm struggling to understand why Manchester United isn't going that extra step this transfer window.

"Sancho's £70million-odd was last year's money, but with regards to Manchester United, they've always gone after the best player in the Premier League.

"Why is Anthony Martial, Daniel James, Jesse Lingard, you are talking about potentially offloading a lot of wages there and getting some transfer fees in.

"Why are they not going for Harry Kane this week? I think if Harry Kane entered Man United, they could get up to 90, 95 points.
