The President, Rochas Foundation International and former Governor of IMO State, Senator Rochas Okorocha has spoken on the internal crisis rocking the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), following the party's defeat in the Edo governorship election.

Okorocha, a senator representing Imo West senatorial district, said there is no more APC, saying that what is left of the ruling party is the respect for President Muhammadu Buhari.

Okorocha made this known on Sunday, September 20, according to Daily Times. 

He congratulated the people of EDO for standing firmly against oppression by the dissolved executive council of the APC which led to the defection of Governor Obaseki to another party.

Okorocha insisted that some politicians have taken advantage of President Buhari's honesty and patriotism to perpetuate unprovoked chaos and confusion in the party by neglecting the founding fathers of the APC stressing that he had forewarned of the catastrophe that might plaque the party urging Mr President to step-in to avert the total collapse of the APC.

He said; ”It is not only PDP members that voted for Obaseki even APC members also voted for him.EDO people did not vote for APC or PDP, they voted against injustice. Edo people are not docile. They voted for justice to be done in EDO state”.

The former governor who is an APC founding member attributed the crisis rocking the party to the alleged relegation of the founding leaders to the background.

According to him, all founding leaders of the party apart from President Buhari have been schemed out.

He also said the party has abandoned the progressive and democratic ideals on which it was founded.

Continuing, he said: "Now the founding fathers of the part are relegated to the backgrounds and people are coming with different interests making us play the same kind of politics that PDP played."

Okorocha said the party cannot get it right unless the leaders go back to where they all started.

“There is no more APC, what we have is the respect for President Muhammadu Buhari, that is what is keeping us together. What we have is our respect for the person of President Buhari and we still believe that something can be done.

“That trust and respect is what we still call APC, outside that, respect for President Buhari and the trust and belief that he could wake up one day and correct all these injustices and make it fine. That is the only thing that is keeping the APC, if not that, I don’t think there is anything like APC because people are beginning to get fed up. Again, PDP is not even better, the party has its own challenges," the APC senator said.

Meanwhile, following Governor Obaseki's victory at the Edo governorship election, the APC has rejected the results of the September 19 election, alleging foul play.

The party urged its members to stay calm while APC leaders study the guber result and decide their next move.

John Mayaki, the chairman of the APC media Campaign council who disclosed this a statement issued on Sunday, September 20, citied strong-arm tactics.
