Offinso traditional leaders have fined some aggrieved New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters who invoked curses in the Offin River, following the disqualification of a Parliamentary seat aspirant in the Ashanti Region.

According to the Traditional Council in the Offinso South constituency, it was a taboo to curse anyone in the river since the deity in the Offin River abhors such requests.

They therefore demanded 12 sheep, six fowls, one dog, six crates of egg, and a box of Schnapps to pacify the gods.

The chiefs arrived at a decision after consultation, and a summon was issued out to the curse-invoking supporters to appear before the paramount chief of Offinso, Nana Wiafe Akenten III.

Baamuhene of Offinso, Nana Kofi Adu Boahen, told Kumasi FM that the culprits had committed an abomination.

“We don’t use the river for curses. We only ask for blessings and positive prayer requests from the deity. Moreover, it is only the Offinso chief who has the authority to go and slaughter a sheep in the river. It is a big spiritual challenge for us. A few days after the act, we witnessed a bad omen,” he explained.

The NPP delegates invoked curses on the party executives for the disqualification of Dr Isaac Yaw Opoku, an aspirant who wanted to contest the parliamentary primaries.

These Aggrieved supporters accused the party leadership of manipulating the process to maintain the incumbent MP, Ben Abdalla Bandah.

Similar incident happened in new Juabeng Constituency as aggrieved supporters invoked curses on NPP National Executives following the dismissal of parliamentary candidate, Francis Owusu Achiaw from the impending parliamentary primaries.

The NPP has in response directed the constituency heads to suspend these supporters as soon as possible.
