Operation Feed Ourselves, founded by John Dumelo, aims to reduce imports

John Dumelo, an actor turned politician, launched Operation Feed Ourselves to produce rice, tomatoes, and onions at home in order to cut down on food imports.

As a result of excessive imports that require US Dollars, the value of the Ghana Cedi is rapidly falling against the US currency.

Mr. Dumelo, who is now engaged in farming full-time, has put out a workable answer to the problem.

John claims that Ghanaians may assist save the situation if they can domestically manufacture rice, which is undoubtedly one of the most imported goods in Ghana.

Farmer John, as he prefers to be called, plans to increase food production, particularly rice from Ghana's Guan District and northern regions.

He will also produce maize, tomatoes, and onions from different regions of Ghana as part of the plan.

He asked Ghanaians to support the project and try to add value to their agricultural output.

With the help of the Operation Feed Ourselves program, Farmer John hopes to cut the importation of such locally produced commodities by 50% over the course of six years.
