The Ashanti regional branch of the New Patriotic Party has suspended seven members of the party for misconduct.

The suspended members from the Juaben Constituency invoked curses on the party’s executives following the disqualification of their preferred candidate, Francis Owusu-Akyaw.

The aggrieved supporters slaughtered a sheep, and recited incantations said to invoke powers of several deities to deal with persons scheming against a fair electoral process

In response, the General Secretary of the party John Boadu directed constituency heads to find and suspend the dissenters.

“We will make sure that our rules and regulations, particularly our disciplinary measures are instituted to instill discipline in our party,” he said at a press conference.

According to reports, more suspensions are expected to follow for similar behavior in Asokwa, Offinso, and Atwima Mponua.

In a related development, the Paramount Chief of Juabeng Traditional Area, Nana Otuo Serebour II had earlier charged the Concerned New Patriotic Party (NPP) Delegates of Juabeng Constituency who invoked a curse on National Executives for the alleged dismissal of Parliamentary candidate, Francis Owusu Anchiaw.

The offenders are Kwabena Osei, Assemblyman for Daaman Electoral Area, Yaw Owusu, and Kofi Dickson were fined 12 sheep and 24 pieces of schnapps (two cartons) on Thursday, June 11, 2020.

The Offinso traditional leaders had also fined some aggrieved New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters who invoked curses in the Offin River, following the disqualification of a Parliamentary seat aspirant in the Ashanti Region.

According to the Traditional Council in the Offinso South constituency, it was a taboo to curse anyone in the river since the deity in the Offin River abhors such requests.
