The ruling NPP has officially opened nominations for the parliamentary primaries in constituencies where the party currently has no parliamentary representation, otherwise known as orphan constituencies.
This announcement came after the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) and National Council meetings held on Monday, April 3, 2023.
Aspiring parliamentary candidates interested in contesting in these constituencies have from Tuesday, July 11, 2023, to Thursday, August 10, 2023, to file their nominations. The elections are expected to take place between Saturday, September 23, 2023, and Saturday, December 2, 2023.
But the leaders of the NPP have suspended the primary in Adansi Fomena North with the reasons best known to themselves, the decision which has kept the rank and file of the party in the area including Mr Ofori-Asante in suspense.
Speaking in an interview with Soireenews.com, Mr Ofori Asante has declared to contest the primary if the leadership of the NPP lift the ban and open the nomination.
He pointed out that since he lost the contest in the 2020 general elections having been a loyal member of the NPP, he has been actively working for the party in the area which has brought needed social and infrastructure developmental projects and programmes to many electoral areas within the constituency.
Mr Ofori-Asanate noted that he lobbied for the reshaping, surveying and construction of some major roads including the construction of health infrastructure projects, water and sanitation, education infrastructure projects and electricity infrastructure projects in some rural communities within the constituency.
"Although l have been voted out, l have not got to sleep in my job, l have been working for the party and ensured that l have been lobbying for the social and infrastructure intervention projects and programmes in the areas of health, education, streetlight, water and sanitisation, electricity, roads, drains among others to brought to the constituency. So it means that l have the constituents in my heart. I have continue to respect the constituents since l am ready to served them but to be served by the people," he noted.
He accused the incumbent MP for not even lobbying to bring a single monumental project to the constituency since he was elected to represent the constituents in parliament.
Outlining his vision to seek for re-election, Mr Ofori Asante noted that he is the only best candidate to lead NPP in the 2024 polls and urged the delegates and members of the NPP in the area to support him in his effort to lead the party to a resounding victory in the general election in 2024.
" If the nomination for the contest of the parliamentary primary in the area is opened, the NPP should expect that I am going to win the Adansi Fomena North parliamentary seat hands down should delegates and members of the party in the area vote massively for me to emerge as a winner in the upcoming NPP parliamentary candidate race.
"...this is because almost majority of the constituents are completely fed up with the continuous empty promises of the sitting MP, Mr Ofori-Asante was very optimistic about his chances of winning the seat for the New Patriotic party.
He promised to serve with a clear direction, focused mission and an innovative bottom to top management approach when given the nod to lead the party in the 2024 showdown.
The NPP astute young politician lamented the deplorable/death trap nature of the various road networks in the various electoral areas which constituted the Adansi Fomena North Constituency, causing major inconveniences to commuters in these areas.
Additionally, the NPP parliamentary aspirant stressed that the regular commuters and motorists complained of having to endure snarls and slow moving traffic due to resurfacing potholes on these major roads.
" The road networks in the areas were in the very poor state, despite the fact that the people have the sitting Member of Parliament in the person of Lawyer Andrew Amoako Asiamah," he stated.
He bemoaned the lack of proper ICT centres, toilet, drainage, market, water, sanitation and road infrastructure facilities some electoral areas within the constituency, stressing that these above listed problems are confronting the residents staying in the rural and urban communities in the constituency."
"Again the said roads network, ICT centres and poverty alleviation have been some of the major problems plaguing the Adansi Formena North Constituency to which the MP, on several campaign platforms had promised to address but still to no avail after many years of being in office,' Mr Asante told this journalist.
Mr Ofori Asante stressed that he is constituents’ hope as the one with the magic wand to transform the Adanasi Fomena North and make things better.
He stated categorically that he will empower the grassroots for the party's victory in the 2024 polls.
He said strengthening the base of the party and a good strategy were all the NPP needed to win the 2024 general election.
“For some time now my aim has been to help strengthen the foundation, resource the base… so that we will have a strong political party to win the 2024 elections,”he said.
According to him, the decision to contest the NPP parliamentary candidate primaries was a demonstration of his commitment to the party and the constituency .
“This defining moment is not about Philip Ofori Asante. It's just a testament to my personal commitment to the party, people and constituency duty as a citizen to contribute to the betterment of the constituency, ” he noted.
He stated that the next Adansi Fomena North MP led by him would restore hope and constituency's pride.
He, however drew attention to his prior accomplishments and emphasized his dedication to promoting employment growth and economic development by revolutionizing the agricultural industry and building industries across the constituency.
He stressed how much the people in the area, especially the young ones, would gain from such initiatives and urged the delegates and members of the NPP in the area to keep their hopes alive.
"I would like to reassure all the delegates, supporters, and members of the NPP in the Adansi Fomena North that l am ready to serve them but not to be served after electing their next MP. I am repeating that if the time come for which the delegates and members of the party vote massively to elect me to win the NPP primaries, l would also plead with the eligible electorates in the constituency to vote for me as their servant to win the parliamentary seat from the NDC," Mr Asante reaffirmed.
The aspirant used the opportunity to call for unity noting that it is key for the success of the party revealing he has visited all past executives who contested and lost in the various positions in the party to broker peace.
