Nigeria will not play in the quarter-final at the ongoing FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

This comes after the Super Falcons lost to England via penalty shoot-out in the Round of 16 on Monday, August 7, 2023.

Nigeria had played a 0-0 draw with England after 120 minutes.

Desire Oparanozie and Michelle Alozie missed their spot-kicks during the penalty shoot-out.

Meanwhile, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, hailed the Super Falcons for making Nigeria proud despite their exit from the 2023 Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

Tinubu and Atiku after the match took to Twitter to praise the Nigerian ladies for braving all odds to reach the knockout stage of the 2023 Women’s World Cup where they lost gallantly.

“I must commend the effort by our Super Falcons @NGSuper_Falcons at the FIFA Women’s World Cup,” President Tinubu tweeted.

“Your brilliant performance did not go unnoticed despite the final outcome. You made Nigeria proud on the global stage!”

The Candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) during the 2023 Presidential election, Atiku said he still has no regrets about skipping his breakfast for the game.

“We may have lost to England in a penalty shootout, but the @NGSuper_Falcons have every reason to hold their heads high,” he tweeted.

The quarter-final stages will take place on Friday and Saturday.
