New $1m fund for Somali bomb victims

In response to the Saturday double explosions in the capital city that left at least 100 people dead and more than 300 injured, the Somali government has established a $1 million (£867,000) emergency fund to assist those in need.

Two private companies have also committed to contributing to the victims' fund.

According to the government, significant security reforms are also being planned in the wake of this most recent attack, which is Somalia's bloodiest since a truck bombing in the same region five years ago that claimed more than 500 lives.

Since the attack on Saturday, a tense quiet has descended around Mogadishu's Zobe neighborhood.

Sunday night saw the reopening of the affected road to regular traffic.

However, the long-term damage is evident because the twin bombs' impact completely demolished nearby buildings that housed numerous companies.
