Secret terror trials in Nigeria are being challenged by Nigerian separatists.

The leader of Nigeria's banned Indigenous People of Biafra (Ipob) separatist movement has asked the country's federal high court to overturn a judgment issued earlier this month ordering all terrorism cases to be tried in secret.

According to the Punch newspaper, Nnamdi Kanu stated in court filings that the verdict violated the constitution and other existing laws and should be overturned.

To ensure the security of all parties, high court judge John Terhemba Tsoho ordered the private trial of terrorism suspects on April 8.

He made it impossible for the media to report on the instances. Only the judge, key court personnel, and security agents involved in the case will have access to the courtroom.

Since his arrest in June on terrorism, sedition, and other accusations related to Ipob's activities, Mr. Kanu has been in and out of court.

He is adamant in his denial of any wrongdoing.
