NDC Top Guru Sends An Open Letter EC Over Ongoing Limited Voter Registration Exercise
A leading member of the National Democratic Congress, Mr Kingsford Davies
A LEADING member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Kingsford Davies has sent a strong worded letter the Electoral Commission of Ghana headed by Lawyer Jean Adukwei Mensa.
In a letter by the NDC young astute politician which was intercepted by Soireenews.com reads in part; "I hope this letter finds you in good health and high spirits. I am writing to express my deep concern and frustration regarding the recent limited registration exercise conducted by the Electoral Commission.
It is disheartening to observe how this crucial democratic process has been marred by various issues that raise serious questions about its fairness and integrity.
First and foremost, it appears that the limited registration exercise has been orchestrated as a means to maintain the current government in power.
The timing and execution of this exercise raise suspicions, as it conveniently aligns with the upcoming elections. This has led many to believe that it is a deliberate attempt to manipulate the voter registration process in favor of the ruling party.
The integrity of our democracy hinges on free and fair elections, and any perception of bias erodes the trust of the electorate.
Furthermore, the use of faulty and malfunctioning registration machines by EC officials is a grave concern.
The registration process should be efficient, accurate, and accessible to all eligible citizens.
However, reports of malfunctioning machines have resulted in long queues, frustration, and disenfranchisement of potential voters.
This not only undermines the credibility of the EC but also discourages citizens from participating in the democratic process, which is detrimental to the very essence of our democracy.
Equally troubling is the exorbitant cost of transportation to registration centers. Many citizens, particularly those in rural or remote areas, face financial hardships when attempting to travel to these centers.
The high cost of transportation effectively acts as a barrier to voter registration for individuals who are already marginalized and economically disadvantaged.
This situation further exacerbates the perception that the limited registration exercise is designed to exclude certain demographics from the electoral process.
In light of these concerns, I urge you to take immediate action to address these issues. It is imperative that the EC conducts a transparent and impartial limited registration exercise that upholds the principles of democracy.
This includes ensuring the functionality of registration machines, providing adequate resources to reduce transportation costs for citizens, and demonstrating a commitment to conducting free and fair elections.
Our democracy depends on the active participation of all eligible citizens, and any attempts to manipulate or hinder this process should not be tolerated.
I implore you to use your influence and authority to rectify these issues and restore confidence in our electoral system.
Thank you for your attention to this matter, and I trust that you will take the necessary steps to uphold the democratic values that are the foundation of our nation.
Sincerely,
KINGSFORD DAVIES
