Jose Mourinho on the touchline

Jose Mourinho’s decision to respond to Spurs frustrating loss on Instagram has received lots of criticism with the latest coming from Martin Keown, talkSPORTS report.

The talkSPORTS co-host sees it unethical for the Portuguese to demean the confidence of his players based on their  1-0 loss to Royal Antwerp in the Europa League.

Mourinho made nine changes to the side that won 1-0 at Burnley with the likes of Dele Alli, Steven Bergwijn, Carlos Vinicius and Giovani Lo Celso all given chances. Gareth Bale made his full debut in the game but failed to affect the results which is the end of a 12-match unbeaten run in the Europa League and a perfect record in away matches this season under Mourinho.

He was quick to express his dissatisfaction on Instagram with a post, “Bad performances deserve bad results. Hope everyone in this bus is as upset as I am. Tomorrow 11 AM training.”

Martin Keown has branded the manager’s act as ‘childish’ and ‘unhealthy’.

“I’m not happy with Mourinho being so public. Save it for the dressing room,” he told BT Sport.

“Is this how we’re going to communicate [over Instagram]? If you’re gonna talk to me, talk to my face. Don’t do posts.

“Keep it in house, it’s a bit childish what you’re hearing. Players have to keep their mouths shut, but he can say whatever he wants publicly. I would rather keep it in the dressing room. I’m not sure that’s healthy.”

The manager during his interview after the game when asked of Dele Ali’s performance, refused to single him out. He justified that he fails to feature some players due to their averageness, a decision which has been proven on the night.

"I don't want to analyse individually," he told Sky Sports.

"It's fair to say that players with bad performances influence the team but also a team influence individual performances. It's not for me to individualise and bring some names to the table. You can do that yourself. You always tell me 'why is this player not playing, why is this player not playing' - maybe you don't ask me that for a few weeks as you have the answer.

“You know what our best team is. I always like to think the players deserve an opportunity. We have a big squad with lots of good players. It's my responsibility to give them opportunities but it's also their opportunity to catch the chance with both hands and ask for more. Tonight shows my future choices are going to be very easy."
