La Liga will return on June 20 according to Leganes boss Javier Aguirre confirmed to MARCA.

The manager of the LaLiga club has reported that the 2019/2020 Spanish league season will continue next month to fulfil the remaining fixtures and make way for next season.

The Laliga and other top European leagues went on hold after the coronavirus pandemic feasted the world two months ago affecting sporting activities as a result of observing the social distancing directive.

The Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sanchez on Tuesday, April 28, 2020 confirmed that professional athletes can safe return to training on May 4, 2020. Players underwent a COVID-19 testing on Wednesday and all preparations are underway to resume a COVID-19 free league.

"We've now got a restart date: LaLiga will start again on June 20 and we'll officially finish within five weeks, on July 26," Aguirre told MARCA Claro.

Aguirre made known that matches will be played on Saturday, Sundays, Wednesdays and Thursdays for the 11 remaining fixtures.

"LaLiga have now confirmed that to me officially and so I'm happy, because we've now got training all scheduled.

"We'll start tomorrow. Fortunately, we passed our [coronavirus] tests."

If teams start training again this week, that gives them around six weeks to get ready for matches to begin again on June 20.

Playing matches twice a week will allow the league to finish in just over a month, by the July 26 date.
