Model who is blind expects a future as a beauty queen

At the age of seven, Nigerian model Favour Rufus received a glaucoma diagnosis, yet she still had a clear image of herself as a future beauty queen.

Favor recently fought for the title of Miss Port Harcourt City, the biggest state beauty pageant in Nigeria, alongside 18 other models.

She came in second place and was later named Miss Port Harcourt City Humanity 2022 in the following beauty pageant.

"A lot of people talked me out of competing. Most of them weren't even relatives, Favour told the BBC.

She claims that one of her teachers became aware of her eye issues when her academic performance suffered.

Her worst worries were realized once she went to the eye clinic.

"The clinic's doctor informed me that it was already too late. My left eye was gone."

Her right eye was still in good shape, although she would need to use eye drops regularly.

Favor claimed that her right eye is currently quite hazy and that she relies solely on the movement training she received throughout rehabilitation.

She is committed to pursuing her profession as a beauty queen despite the challenges.
