The Northern Regional Minister Honourable Shani Shaibu has urged Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies to endeavour to explore various options and opportunities to increase their revenue base and make judicious use of the funds raised for the development of their districts.

He made this statement at the sensitization workshop on the Public Financial Management Regulations, 2019 (LI2378), Public Investment Management Regulations, 2020 (LI2411) and the Public-Private Partnership ACT, 3020 (ACT, 1039) in Tamale.

The workshop formed part of stakeholder engagement that seeks to enhance the understanding of the legislation and to ensure their effective implementation.

Hon. Shaibu stated that these legislations are legal and therefore have some punitive measures for non-compliance.

“Stakeholders should ensure that they heed to what is required. The reliance on excuses to violate these legislations is not acceptable, thus we have a responsibility to be guided by those legislations at all times,” he admonished.

He commended the Ministry of Finance for organizing the programme and urged participants to participate effectively to ensure its success.

The participants at the workshop included Chief Directors, Regional Economic Planning Officers, Regional Budget Officer, Metropolitan, Municipalities and District Coordinating Directors, Planning Officers, Budget Analysts and Resource Persons.
