Ronald Koeman has reiterated on the significance of Lionel Messi to his team in the upcoming season.

The Argentine had a change of mind last Friday and started training with the Blaugranas on Monday following his decision to part ways with the Catalan club.

The newly appointed coach of Barcelona has so far overseen the work out of his entire squad and he believes the Argentine’s inclusion is massive for the team.

"He's the best," told the club's channels.

"Messi is a hugely important player and he has shown that for many years.

"I hope that he can repeat that this season." 

Barca will play Gimnastic de Tarragona on Saturday to prepare them for the upcoming LaLiga season.

The Blaugranas will not take part in the opening fixture due to their participation in the European competitions in August.

Koeman has attested that he is happy with the intensity of training and how the players are boiling to bounce into action.

"[Training] been very positive," he said.

"We're two weeks in and the players are working very well.

"There is a good level of intensity in training, first of all with the fitness side in the opening weeks, and now with tactics."

"The players have shown a lot of spirit, interest, and intensity, and that is the most important thing because for me you have to train how you play.

"It's very important and I am very happy with the work that the team have done over these two weeks."
