Eduard Mendy is expected to miss Chelsea’s Champions League clash with Sevilla at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday, the club revealed.

The new goalkeeper got injured whiles on national duty during the break and missed Chelsea’s 3-3 draw with Southampton on Saturday, a game which saw another Kepa howler after Kurt Zouma’s back pass led to the Saint’s second goal.

The Spaniard is still expected to be posted ahead of Caballero against the Europa League winners with Thiago Silva also expected to come back.

Speaking at the pre-match, Frank Lampard uttered that Champions League football is a great opportunity for his new blend of players to learn new things and also welcome new challenge following their knockout in the round of 16 exits to Bayern.

Barca are not favorites to win Champions League - Koeman

"The Champions League is a great platform to learn, and we played against the best in Bayern Munich [last season]. That tie was a great marker for our young players in the squad, and getting through the group last year was a good outcome after losing the first game.”

"We are always searching for improvement and that continues this week. Nothing is given to you in the Premier League and the Champions League, and we have to keep building relationships on the pitch and staying calm. Concentration, focus and discipline are important against opposition like Sevilla."
