Mad rush for susu boxes in Dormaa over e-levy, producers discloses

Susu box producers in the Dormaa Central Municipality of the Bono Region have disclosed that their market is boosting and people’s quest to get a money box is on the rise in the area.

They attributed the development to the introduction of the e-levy.

Moneybox is a form of savings among some Ghanaians, but it is usually a traditional form of savings among children and to some extent aged and people with less education.

Soiree News in an interview with a money box producer Emmanuel K. Badu, said,  "there has been a high purchase of money-saving box recently due to the intended e-levy".

He stated that people are of the view that the use of money boxes is essential and there will be no deduction on their money as compared to saving it in their momo or bank account.

According to him, the market is booming and it's much more encouraging than before.

He however added that, although most people deposit their savings in banks, some people probably have money boxes at home, in which coins are symbolically placed.

Confirming this In a random interview, some residents in Dormaa said they have gone back to the traditional way of saving money.

They said they are now using the susu box since the government hinted at introducing an e levy to prevent deductions on their money.
