Macron urges ties with Algeria beyond 'painful' past

Emmanuel Macron, the president of France, stated during a trip to Algeria that the two nations should look past their difficult shared past and toward the future.
Mr. Macron said that a joint Franco-Algerian commission of historians will be established to research archives on French colonial authority in Algeria during a joint news conference with his Algerian counterpart.
Included in this would be the grueling eight-year conflict that resulted in Algeria's independence 60 years ago.
