Georginio Wijnadum believes the concoction of Thiago and Liverpool is a perfect mixture and the midfielder's addition to the Reds lineup will inspire them in their pursuit to defend the Premier League title.

Thiago Alcantara signed a four-year contract for Liverpool last month after rejecting a contract extension offered by reigning European Champions, Bayern Munich.

Accessing the player’s early awareness created in his first 45-minutes in Liverpool’s game against Chelsea last month, Wijnaldum has confidence that his inclusion in the squad will animate the Reds midfield and lead Liverpool to glory.

“Everything impressed me,” he told Liverpoolfc.com.

“I saw him play for years now, I played against him when we played against Bayern, and the awareness he has on the pitch, the confidence he has on the ball and the way he manages to let the team play is unbelievable.

“I think it’s a perfect match: Liverpool and Thiago.”

Gini Wijnaldum was speculated not to be happy with the signing of the Spaniard and opted to join Barcelona with the rationale that he would lose his spot to the versatile midfielder.

The 29-year old debut game saw him partner the Dutchman in midfield to cruise past Chelsea in Matchday 2 at Stamford Bridge.

Thiago missed Liverpool’s Premier League game against Arsenal at Anfield and Aston Villa away after he was confirmed by the club to have contracted coronavirus.

The Reds lost heavily to Aston Villa by 7-2 last Sunday missing key players – Sadio Mane also to COVID-19 and Jordan Henderson, who was also recovering from injury.

They play Everton on Saturday in the early kickoff at Anfield in the Merseyside derby.
