Former Aston Villa player, David Ginola has advised Liverpool and Manchester United to be focused on bringing in a defender before the transfer window shuts on Monday night.

The two clubs conceded a total of 13 goals in the Matchweek four games. Manchester United on Sunday afternoon failed to cope with Spurs attacking prowess having taken the lead earlier in the game. Spurs responded two minutes later and Anthony Martial’s exit from the game after a clash with Eric Lamela was the turning point, falling by 6-1 in their second PL loss.

Elsewhere at Aston Villa same day, Adrian’s howler in the early minutes was what the home side needed to boost themselves against the Champions. Liverpool were down by 7-2; O. Watkins completed a hat trick as Ross Barkley also scored his debut goal for his new-found club.

Both clubs have not settled for guardians at their backline with their focus solely on midfield and attack.

"If you want to be successful, especially in the Premier League, you need to be strong at the back. Yesterday, what we saw from Man United and Liverpool, was the opposite,” he said.

"On Deadline Day, I think those clubs need to concentrate more on how they're going to set up their defence for the rest of the season. It's a long season, managers are going to have to cope with injuries and suspensions, but what we saw were like friendlies in July."

Manchester United have made one signing – Donny van de Beek arriving from Ajax as Jadon Sancho has become the iconic figure at Old Trafford, following the rejection of the Red Devil's offer last week.

Edison Cavani is reportedly close to making a move to United and sky sports has disclosed that Alex Telles will also undergo a medical and sign before going off to join the Brazilian national team.

Thiago, Jota and Tsimikas are new arrivals for the Reds. A central defender to either provide cover or be covered by Gomez seems off the radar for Liverpool.

Much is yet to be unfolded in the transfer window today.
