Jesse Lingard has rejected a new contract extension offer from Manchester United.

The English International is growing concerns about a potential lack of playing time this season at Old Trafford, The Times reports.

The 28-year old was loaned to West Ham United last season in the second round of the Premier League and straightaway impressed, scoring nine goals and creating five assists in 16 matches for the Hammers.

David Moyes side tried signing him permanently but the forward snubbed the idea and yearned to improve under Ole Gunner Solskjaer for a first-team place.

Lingard is now into the final year of his £100,000-a-week deal at Old Trafford and will be able to leave the club on a free transfer at the end of the season if no agreement is found.

He has not started a game for Manchester United yet he has proved his firing prowess by scoring twice and laying an assist in England’s win over Andorra on Sunday.

Lingard will expect to make an impact in the Three Lions World Cup involvement and that means he needs regular playing time at his club. With the transfer window closed and his contract running out, it is likely that he could prefer a move out of Old Trafford in January.

The newspaper says that Lingard is ready to run down his contract unless he is assured by the United hierarchy that he is in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s future first-team plans.
