Robert Lewandowski has been adjudged as the European Best player for the first time.

The award, aimed at commending Europe’s best male players in a season in regard to their performances both domestically and internationally at either club or national team level was under the belt of Virgil van Dijk after he led Liverpool to win the Champions League trophy in 2018/19

The Poland international scored 55 goals in 47 games as Bayern won the treble – the Champions League, Bundesliga and DFB Pokal

He scored 55 goals and provided 10 assists in 47 appearances for Bayern Munich last season.

The Bayern midfielder was also named as Europe’s best forward, beating Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne and his teammate, Manuel Neuer for the accolade.

"I have to say it's an amazing feeling," Lewandowski said after receiving the award. "This trophy is something special. I want to thank my teammates, everyone at Bayern and my family for all their support. I dreamed about winning the Champions League as a young boy, so now I'm very happy and proud to have done it with Bayern."
