Liverpool have been linked with the French International Kylian Mbappe but a move this summer seems unlikely.

According to reports, Mbappe knows it is unlikely Liverpool will be able to afford to sign him this summer.

Kylian has just over a year remaining of his PSG contract and is therefore linked with a move away from the Ligue 1 giants.

Los Blancos are long-term admirers of the French superstar, though the Spanish side faces further financial trouble of their own due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Mbappe saw his PSG teammate Neymar signing a new contract with the club. Neymar was linked with a return to Barcelona but has ended speculation over his future by committing to PSG.

Julien Laurens, a French football expert says Mbappe has a number of options in front of him. However, he says the 22-year-old is aware a move to the likes of Liverpool or Real looks increasingly unlikely this summer due to the fee and wages he would attract.

Speaking to ESPN FC, Julien said, "Mbappe can extend the contract like PSG have offered him, another four-year deal with a huge pay rise which would take him to around the similar money that Neymar is on.

"We're talking around €35million (£30.1m) a year, which is a lot of money. He could also not want to extend but he also knows no one can pay for him right now. Not in a transfer fee, not in those kinds of wages either.

"Not Real Madrid, not Liverpool, they don't have that kind of money unless they sell a lot of players, which is not going to be immediate. So he knows that.

"The third option is to run down his contract. PSG won't be happy, they can't afford to let him go on a free in the summer 2022 but that could be better for Kylian."

Mbappe has not hidden his admiration for Liverpool in the past. Speaking last May, as the Reds stormed towards a first Premier League title, the forward hailed Klopp and his side.

“This season, Liverpool has been a machine in the Premier League. They have made winning look easy but the truth is that it is never easy. Performances, like they have been having, don’t just happen," Kylian Mbappe told the Mirror.
