Barring any hitches, Ghana's technological drive will soon see a major boost with yet-to-be introduced Artificial Intelligence(AI) courses at Knutsford University College(KUC).

This, according to the PRO Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kwamena John Essel, will properly position the University in the training of students to enhance the speedy socio-economic development of the country.

He noted that AI has taken over jobs that hitherto were injurious to the human labour force.

Professor Essel made the disclosure last Saturday, November 17, 2021, at the 11th graduation ceremony of the University in Accra.

He underscored the overall benefits that AI would add to the country's technological advancements.

He, therefore, called on the government to as a matter of urgency accept inputs to facilitate the new Education Bill which when presented to the government would include the study of Artificial Intelligence(AI) to spur socio-economic development.

According to him, Knutsford University College would be poised to see the introduction of same.

He further appealed to all interested stakeholders to make input in ensuring the introduction of same.

On his part, the Minister of Education, Dr Yaw Adutwum applauded the role and contribution of Private Tertiary Institutions in the educational landscape of Ghana.

"You have for many years been augmenting the government's effort in the delivery of tertiary education to the citizens of this country, and to a large extent, International students.

Your role in providing tertiary education to the citizens of our nation has become more pronounced now than ever with the ever-increasing demand for tertiary education resulting from the implementation of the Free Senior High School policy", he indicated.

He noted that the nexus between and socio-economic transformation of a country has been well documented.

Studies, he added shows that there's a strong positive correlation between education and the economy of any country adding, " This means that, to achieve economic prosperity, we must invest in our education."

He said the Akufo Addo led administration has over the past five years invested heavily in our education sector which was sure to churn out a critical mass of assertive, employable and empowered Ghanaians to spur up the socio-economic transformation of the country.

He revealed that Ghana's Gross Tertiary Enrollment Ratio(GTER) currently stood at 18.84% significantly falling short of a target of 25% envisaged by the Education Strategic Plan(ESP).

Which situation, he said has a significant effect on producing a quality workforce across the various sectors of the economy and ultimately, Ghana's Gross Domestic Product(GDP) growth.

Studies he revealed shown that about 60% of GDP In developed countries mostly contributed by the workforce with some form of tertiary education.
"GTER is one of the determinants for socio-economic transformation of any country.

It is therefore not by accident that countries with more than 40% GTER are developing faster", he reiterated.

The President at his last state of the nation address underscored the government's commitment to increase Ghana's GTER from the current 18.84% to 40% by 2030 where the role of private Universities including Knutsford University will be critical.
