Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp is reported to have informed FSG to acquire David Alaba to solve the leakage in the Reds central defence.

The Bayern Munich defender is on a move after failing to extend his contract for the Bavarians.

TalkSPORTS reports that Real Madrid are in pursuit of the Austrian yet Liverpool is in desperate need of the centre back, with Bayern having lined for the transfer of Dayot Upamecano from RB Leipzig as Alaba’s replacement.

Liverpool on Sunday were crushed from the FA Cup tournament following a 3-2 defeat to Manchester United at the Old Trafford.

Two goals conceded by the Reds – Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford’s strikes were as a result of chaotic defending, a department which has affected the Reds style of play.

Liverpool are yet to win a game in the new year having fallen from the top of the Premier League and now trail by six points. With Van Dijk and Joe Gomez’s recovery not yet announced, the Reds could be forced to bring a defender in January as the heat of the Premier League and the Champions League turns on.

The Athletic reported that Klopp could reunite with former player, Sokratis Papastathopoulos at Anfield after Arsenal terminated his contract.

Despite media speculation, talks have not progressed and the 32-year old is set to join Olympiakos.
